A Message from Mrs. Terez Curry, President of the Bahamas Red Cross Society
The National Red Cross Societies of the Caribbean are pleased to host the XXII edition of our Inter-American Conference. In a special way, I am honored to welcome you to The Bahamas, the host country of the event.
The Bahamas Red Cross began operating as an arm of the British Red Cross in 1939, and became a National Society through an act passed in Parliament in 1975.
We currently have over 450 volunteers and a staff of 61 people working in the 16 local units. In recent years we have reached 30,000 people in the area of health care, and more than 12,000 people have accessed disaster response and early recovery programs.
During the conference, we will do our best to make you feel at home, and we will strive to tell you about our history and culture, about our present and future challenges, about what it means for the island territories to fulfill our humanitarian mission.
